What is a Periodontist?

A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the diagnosis and surgical and non-surgical treatment of diseases and conditions of the periodontium. Periodontists are experts in the management of patients with periodontal diseases including all forms of gingivitis, periodontitis and gingival recession (gum recession). Periodontics is one of the nine recognized specialties of dentistry, and these doctors complete three years of additional formal training beyond dental school in an accredited residency training program.

Our Team Can Help

Dr. Gluck is a member of the American Dental Association, American Academy of Periodontology, American Academy of Implant Dentistry, and the International Congress of Oral Implantology. At Montville Periodontics and Implantology, we specialize in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases of the gum and bone. We treat gum recession and place dental implants with the goal of protecting all the support structures of your teeth. We are trained to ensure your gums, jawbone, and connective gum tissue are all operating at optimal capacity.

Periodontal procedures require the use of many different disciplines. We must anticipate future gum and tooth problems, treat current ones, and repair prior ones. If left untreated, gum damage can cause tooth loss, or in extreme situations, the disease could require the removal of bone and tissue. This gives periodontal professionals the reputations as the plastic surgeons of dentistry. We work to correct soft tissue complications before bigger problems occur. Prevention is the key to success with periodontal diseases.

Common Conditions

Periodontal disease is a progressive condition and one of the leading causes of tooth loss among adults. As periodontal experts, we can treat mild, moderate and advanced gum disease. First, we address the bacterial infection that is at the root of the problem; then we provide information and education on good oral hygiene and how to keep your teeth and gums clean. The most common conditions we treat are:

  • Gingivitis
  • Mild to Moderate Periodontitis
  • Advanced Periodontitis
  • Missing Teeth

The team at Montville Periodontics and Implantology can perform a wide range of treatments to stop the progression of gum disease. We can replace missing teeth and make your smile more aesthetically pleasing as well as promote optimal oral health. Implant placement, Osteoplasty (hard tissue recontouring), Gingivoplasty (soft tissue recontouring), and bone grafting are some of the treatments we commonly perform. Bone grafting, deep pocket cleaning, and crown lengthening are also performed in our office.
